I really enjoyed watching this video. It’s a fantastic piece of music and every time I listen to it, it takes me on an emotional journey but I also enjoyed having the opportunity to hear these great violinists and to hear the different approaches to this piece. There is broad, romantic phrasing alongside the lighter bowing of the Baroque period instruments but it’s fascinating how all the performances fit together perfectly. For me, this recording shows there is no correct way to perform Bach and there is plenty of room for varying styles.
