Orchestral violin sectionals

Have you ever wanted to sit next to the leader but not dared? Or have you found that sitting towards the front of the orchestra can be easier to play? In these online sessions you have the opportunity to play with an experienced orchestral violinist. You’ll learn tricks of the trade and tips to take your orchestral playing to the next level. Covering new repertoire every week, you can learn at your own pace: you might want to practise all week or just turn up on the day and play!

I have given daily sectional rehearsals and led the Sinfonietta Orchestra on the NLMS Music Summer School since 1999. This year the course was online and I enjoyed taking the sectional rehearsals so much that I decided I’d like to make it a regular occurence. The participants enjoyed it too and here is one email from a violinist who came to watch:

“Thank you so much Cathy for giving us your time. I thoroughly enjoyed the session even though I wasn’t playing my violin.

It was great to watch and appreciate your style of playing which inspires me to keep practicing. It was useful to follow your bowing technique with your lovely loose wrist which you only really see with professional players, together with the full use of the bow.

Thanks so much for letting me join in and your advice on vibrato. Shall keep working on it.” Dorothy
